Meet the Executive Board

At the end of each semester, the BU chapter of SPJ elects who will hold an executive board position for the next semester. The following BU students make up the Fall 2012 e-board:


Meredith Perri is a junior at Boston University majoring in journalism. In a little over two years at BU, the aspiring sports journalist and New York native has covered nearly every sport for The Daily Free Press and was the sports editor during the spring of 2012. Meredith is also an intern at She’s Game Sports and spent her summer interning with Sportsnet New York and

Vice President:

Jay Schwartz is a magazine journalism and psychology dual degree student entering his junior year. At BU he leads the school’s slam poetry club and is an RA on the Warren Towers College of Communication floor. Jay’s favorite things include, but are not limited to: eggplant, Bjork, Debussy, bow ties and the smell of scotch tape. He dreams of publishing his own lifestyle magazine, but Jay’s biggest aspiration is to be a judge on a reality competition show like Chopped or Project Runway.


Samantha Wood is the secretary of BU SPJ, which means she sends out all the emails and takes notes at each of the meetings. Sometimes she even gets to write on the board. She is a magazine journalism major who has interned at The Sun Chronicle, BostInno and now Boston Magazine. Samantha hopes to work for a food magazine in California one day.


Reigning from Danbury, Conn., Tim Healey is a junior journalism major at Boston University. He hopes to go into sports writing and is a men’s hockey beat writer for the independent student paper at BU, The Daily Free Press. Tim is also an executive producer of butv10’s morning news show, The Wire, and spent his summer interning at The (Danbury, Conn.) News-Times.

Social Media:

Julianna Flamio is a junior in COM and  the co-social media chairperson of BU SPJ.  She has written for on and off-campus publications since freshman year, and now interns for GateHouse Media New England She follows a magazine sequence, but is also open to writing for newspapers and online. Julianna hopes to one day be a managing editor for a travel and/or life and styles magazine.

Nicole Leonard is the social media co-chair for BU SPJ and is studying journalism as a junior at Boston University. She writes for BU’s independent newspaper, The Daily Free Press, and BU’s lifestyle magazine, The Buzz. You can hear her Friday mornings as a co-DJ on WTBU’s radio station. Her goal is to work as a hard news reporter in New York City, where she’ll be close to her hometown of Howell, N.J.


A Los Angeles native, Maddie Rosenberger is a junior majoring in magazine journalism and cultural anthropology. She aspires to be a foreign correspondent some day. Maddie is currently the editor-in-chief of The International Relations Review, an academic journal on international affairs, and interns with Bostonia, the BU alumni magazine.

Kira Cole quickly became involved with the editorial scene upon arriving at BU, where she studies magazine journalism and philosophy. Kira served as the executive editor at The Daily Free Press and has been elected to serve on the board of directors for the Free Press’ publishing company – Back Bay Publishing Co. Outside of the Free Press, Kira contributes to FG Magazine and HerCampus. Over the summer, Kira interned at Women’s Wear Daily and The Weinstein Company in Los Angeles.
